THE G-CLASS IN HYERES: OFF-ROADING MY WAY TO THE 34TH FESTIVAL

As every year since 1985 the fashion scene met for the 34thInternational Festival of Fashion, Photography and Fashion Accessories in the glorious French countryside in Hyères. Over the years, it has become one of the most important fashion festivals in the world, especially for young artists: the young talent competition, in which ten young creatives compete in each category, attracted talents scouts and fashion experts from all over the world – such as Mercedes-Benz. They have supported the Festival as part of its international fashion commitment since 2012 and presented the showrooms “The Shortlisted” with exhibits from the current finalists and “The Formers”, in which the competitors from earlier years once again exhibit their works.

Together with She’s Mercedes – the Mercedes-Benz platform dedicated to inspiring, connecting and empowering women – I was able to record the festival in the media and discover its new creations. So, what car comes to your mind if you had the chance to road trip your way to the French riviera? Obviously, the G 500 with its four-wheel drive and heaps of fun. The components of this iconic vehicle formed their own unique character over generations since it really hasn’t changed its appearance significantly since 1979: the striking door handle and the characteristic closing noise, the robust outer protective strip, the exposed spare wheel on the rear door and the eye-catching turn signals. Last but not least the angular silhouette which gives the on- and off roader its distinctive looks.

So, what has the G-class to offer when it comes to comfort and interior? On the one hand typical features such as the grab handle in front of the passenger or the chrome switches for the three differential locks and on the other hand the standard MB seats equipped with numerous comfort functions. What I love most about this car is that you can always keep track of your environment which is not surprising with the highest seating position of all production cars available. The G feels like the objectification of power through its weight, height, engine power and dominant design. Definitely fitting for a road trip to such a renowned International Fashion Festival.
